
Overview
The Nurse Externship Program provides an opportunity for student nurses to work side-by-side with an experienced RN mentor gaining a better understanding of the registered nurse's role.

9-week summer program -- May 17, 2010 to July 17, 2010

Paid salary -- $10.50 per hour with shift and weekend differential
- Part-time (24 hours per week) or full-time (36-40 hours per week)

2-4 college credit hours (if your college awards it) with 50 percent tuition reimbursement from Missouri Baptist Medical Center

Clinical Areas
Admission Criteria

Current student in good standing at a Missouri or Illinois program
-
2 semesters of clinical experience completed
-
Current AHA or ARC BLS certification
-
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Graduate within one year of externship program

Complete application and interview

2 letters of recommendation from faculty members

- May work extra hours as a patient care tech pending availability and performance without exceeding 40 hours per week
- May remain employed at Missouri Baptist Medical Center after program completion as a patient care tech pending availability and performance
Housing/Relocation
Nurse externs are responsible for their own housing and relocation expenses.
Schedules
Nurse externs must be able to work their RN preceptor's schedule, which may include 8- or 12-hour shifts, days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
Important Dates
Applicants will be contacted by the end of February, 2010 to schedule an interview and will be notified of their selection status by March 19, 2010. Externs must confirm their acceptance by April 2 2010.
