RN Refresher Program

Program Overview
The Registered Nurse Refresher (RNR) program integrates registered nurses who have been away from the acute care setting for five or more years, back into the acute-care environment. This unique program provides the supportive environment necessary to refine skills and critical thinking. A sound knowledge base provides the support and confidence needed to practice in today’s ever-changing hospital environment.

The RNR program is 10 weeks with 63 hours of classroom content. The class meets once a week, usually on Thursday. The first week, however, meets Monday through Friday. Individual learning needs are addressed in the clinical lab, with one-on-one learning opportunities available. The program includes 120 hours of preceptored clinical experience in an inpatient adult medical surgical area.

Program Requirements
You must have a current, undisciplined Missouri RN license. It is recommended that applicants have at least two years experience in an acute care setting.

If you are an inactive RN or licensed in another state besides Missouri, contact the Missouri State Board of Nursing or call 573.751.0681 to get an active Missouri license prior to the start of class.

Course Costs

• $1,500 -- includes classroom content, course book and patient care experiences
• $100 -- non-refundable and -transferable application fee
• $ 500 -- due four weeks prior to the start of the class; balance (and all applicable paperwork) due at least two weeks prior to the start of class

Tuition Reimbursement Policy
Fees may increase without notice. Participants who have already submitted a deposit are exempt from cost increases. Reimbursement is available for Missouri Baptist Medical Center hires that stay employed at least one year after completion of the program. Refunds are pro-rated during the first three weeks.

• Tuition reimbursement schedule:
  • Prior to the first day -- full refund
  • Up to the end of the first week -- 80 percent refunded
  • Up to the end of the second week -- 60 percent refunded
  • Up to the end of the third week -- 40 percent refunded
  • After the third week -- no refund
